E.J. (의정) & Esther (에스더) Hwang
BACKGROUND
When God called E.J. to work for Child Evangelism Fellowship of Northern Virginia in 2007, he had taught students English and Literature at a few colleges in Seoul since 1998. CEF of Northern Virginia was looking for a Korean worker who can train people to reach out Korean children in Northern Virginia. E.J. prayed fervently for God’s direction when he was asked to work for CEF, because it meant that he had to leave his family, friends, and even his job in Korea.
God confirmed His calling using His Word (Matt.6:33), some mentors, and even a tragic shooting at Virginia Tech in 2007. Matt. 6:33, "Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness..." was God's reminder as he finally obeyed His calling to work for CEF of Northern Virginia. It was a giant step of faith for him. However, he realized later that it was a great blessing to obey Him, because God prepared the way for him in advance. Even God had a wonderful plan for E.J. to get married to Esther, who was a children’s pastor at a local Korean church. Their two daughters, Evelyn and Eliana, have been a great blessing and become a wonderful team for serving their Lord.
God had been so faithful by meeting all his needs as E.J. completed his diploma from CMI (Children's Ministries Institute) in 2007 and earned his Master of Divinity (Summa cum Laude) from Capital Seminary and Graduate School in 2016, while he was working/enjoying as a full-time missionary, a full-time husband, and dad.
His focus has been on training children's workers to reach out to the boys and girls through the ministries of CEF. Since 2022, he has taken more responsibilities as Executive Director at CEF of Northern Virginia chapter. He loves to play together, pray together, and plan together with his family. His wife, Esther, also loves the Lord and enjoys homeschooling their children. Over the past 10 years, she had served as a children's ministry pastor in a few local churches. In 2022, God opened her a new door to work as a Licensed Professional Counselor in order to help children, teens, and adults suffering from mental issues.
2007년, 하나님께서 Northern Virginia에 있는 CEF에서 사역하도록 부르셨을 때, 황 의정은 1998년도부터 서울에 있는 대학들에서 10년간 대학생들에게 영어와 영문학을 가르쳤다. 이 당시, CEF of Northern Virginia에서는 CEF의 사역을 통해, 한인 어린이들에게도 공립학교에서 복음과 하나님의 말씀을 가르치도록 한인 교사들을 훈련시킬 수 있는 사역자를 찾고 있었다. 황 의정을 이곳 CEF로 추천한 사람은, 흥미롭게도 김정일이 어렸을 때, 그의 가정교사로서 가르쳤던 북한의 저명한 학자이자 교수였다. 황의정은 CEF에서 사역을 하도록 부탁을 받았을 때, 하나님의 인도하심과 소명을 놓고 간절히 기도했다.
하나님께서는 하나님께서 개인적으로 주신 말씀과, 신뢰했던 멘토들, 그리고 2007년 버지니아 공대에서 일어났던 비극적인 총격사건을 통해, 황 의정의 기도에 응답을 하셨다. 마태복음 6:33 "먼저 그의 나라와 그의 의를 구하라..."는, 그가 결단을 내릴 때, 주님께서 주신 약속의 말씀이셨다. 모든 것을 내려놓고, 미국으로 오는 것은 그에게는 커다란 믿음의 도전이었지만, 주님께 순종하는 것은 또한 큰 축복임을 깨닫게 되었다. 하나님께서는 이미 그가 오기전에 모든 길을 예비해놓으셨다. 심지어, 그 당시 한인교회에서 주일학교 전도사로 사역하고 있던, Esther와 결혼할 수 있도록 놀라운 계획을 가지고 계셨고, 두 사람 사이에, 아름다운 두 딸, Evelyn과 Eliana를 선물로 주셨다. 두 딸들은 가장 소중한 하나님의 축복이며, 함께 동역하는 팀이다.
하나님께서는 황의정이 CEF 국제본부가 있는 워렌튼(미주리 주)에서 CMI (어린이 사역자 훈련원)을 2007년에 졸업하도록, 모든 필요를 채워주셨다. 또한 전담 선교사로서, 전담 남편이자 아빠로서 사역하면서, Capital Seminary and Graduate School 에서, 공부를 시작했고, 7년 만인 2016년에 교역학 석사 (Master of Divinity)를 받았다.
그가 집중하고 있는 일은, CEF 사역을 통해, 어린이들에게 복음을 전하고 하나님의 말씀을 가르치도록, 사람들을 훈련시키는 일이다. 또한 그는 가족들과 함께 놀아주고, 함께 기도하며, 함께 계획 세우는 것을 좋아한다. 아내인 Esther 또한 하나님을 사랑하며, 지난 10여년동안, 지역교회들에서 주일학교 전도사로 사역을 했었다. 팬더믹이 시작되기 6개월 전에, 주님의 인도하심으로, 자녀들을 홈스쿨링을 시작하기 시작했으며, 새로운 사역의 기회를 열어주셨다. 그래서 2022년부터, 전문 상담자 (Licensed Professional Counselor)로서, 팬더믹을 겪는 동안, 더 심해진 정신적 질병을 가지고 찾아온, 아이들, 청소년들, 그리고 어른들을 대상으로 상담을 하고있다.
