Brief History of Child Evangelism Fellowship®
Child Evangelism Fellowship®, also known as CEF®, was founded in 1937 by Jesse Irvin Overholtzer. From the beginning the mission was clear: to evangelize boys and girls, disciple them in the Word of God, and establish them in a local church for Christian growth.
Over eighty years have passed, but CEF has not strayed from that mission. In fact, Mr. Overholtzer used to pray that "someday an army of evangelists would encircle the globe sharing the Good News of Jesus with boys and girls." That prayer is being answered before our eyes. Mr. Overholtzer started as an army of one but God has blessed that army; CEF has 400 offices in the USA and is organized in most nations of the world, with over 3,500 paid staff plus hundreds of thousands of volunteer soldiers who are daily on the front lines sharing the Gospel with over 25 million children in its face-to-face teaching ministries in its last ministry year.
Over the years that army has shared more than 220 million Gospel presentations with children! If those children were a nation, they would displace Brazil as the fifth largest country in the world. Truly God is doing amazing things and we believe the best is still ahead as we daily seek to reach Every Child, Every Nation, Every Day.

CEF® of Northern Virginia
We are committed to reaching children with the Gospel of Jesus Christ through trained and dedicated workers. From the beginning the Good News Club® has been at the heart of the ministry of CEF. Clubs meet once a week during the school year in public schools, community centers, homes, churches and other locations.
Adults working with the program are screened according to our child-protection policy. These workers are men and women with a burden to reach the unreached.
In Northern Virginia, these workers lead Good News Clubs® which meet once a week in the public schools during the school year. These are called After-school Good News Clubs and are open to any child that wants to attend. They are an excellent opportunity for children in the public schools to hear the Gospel and learn the truth from God's Word.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2001 (2001 Supreme Court Ruling) in Good News Clubs v. Milford Central School that Good News Clubs can meet in public school after school hours on the same terms as other community groups. CEF respects the parents' right to decide if their child should attend CEF events held on school property. Therefore, signed parental permission is required for attendance.
The teachers and hostesses can hold holiday clubs, or Party Clubs
such as Birthday Parties for Jesus at Christmas season and others throughout the year. This is also a means of reaching out to unevangelized children in the area. In the summer, 5-Day Clubs® are led by trained college, high school, and middle school students for one hour per day for five consecutive days at each location.
The fair ministry is also a big part of CEF ministry in the summer time. We have a fair ministry at Prince William County Fair in August every year.
CEF also provides training classes for volunteers who desire to work with children's ministries within their local churches.
