Brief History of Child Evangelism Fellowship®
Child Evangelism Fellowship®, also known as CEF®, is a Bible-centered, worldwide organization composed of born-again believers and was founded in 1937 by Jesse Irvin Overholtzer. From the beginning the mission was clear: to Evangelize boys and girls with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus and to Establish (disciple) them in the Word of God and in a local Bible-believing church for Christian living.
Over eighty years have passed, but CEF has not strayed from that mission. In fact, Mr. Overholtzer used to pray that "someday an army of evangelists would encircle the globe sharing the Good News of Jesus with boys and girls." That prayer is being answered before our eyes. Mr. Overholtzer started as an army of one but God has blessed that army; CEF has 400 offices in the USA and is organized in most nations of the world, with 3,604 full-time missionaries around the world, 97% of whom are nationals. In addition, hundreds of thousands of volunteers work with CEF missionaries to share the Gospel. In our 2023 ministry year, a total of 29,245,736 children were impacted through the ministries of CEF with 8,836,147 children professing faith in Christ. Many more have been reached but not recorded.
Over the years, the army of child evangelists has shared more than 220 million Gospel presentations with children! If those children were a nation, they would displace Brazil as the fifth largest country in the world.
The International vision is Every Child, Every Nation, and Every Day.
The USA Ministries' vision is for every child, in every state, to seek and honor God every day.
