A Brief History of Child Evangelism Fellowship®

Child Evangelism Fellowship®, also know as CEF®, is a Bible-centered, worldwide organization composed of born-again believers whose purpose is to evangelize boys and girls with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and to establish (disciple) them in the local church for Christian living.  CEF has over 1,200 missionaries overseas, approximately 1,000 of whom are nationals.  In the USA and Canada 700 full-time workers and an estimated 40,000 volunteers serve the ministry.  CEF was founded by Jesse Irvin Overholtzer in 1937,.

CEF® of Northern Virginia

Child Evangelism Fellowship of Northern Virginia is committed to reaching children with the Gospel of Jesus Christ through trained and dedicated workers.  Adults working with the program are screened according to our child-protection policy.  These workers are men and women with a burden to reach the unreached.  During the school year, they lead Good News Clubs® which meet once a week for an hour in local homes and apartment complexes.

We also have Good News Clubs in the public schools which are held after school gets out.  These are called After School Good News Clubs and are open to any child that wants to attend.  They are an excellent opportunity for children in the public school to hear the Gospel and learn the truth from God's Word.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2001 in Good News Clubs v. Milford Central School that Good News Clubs can meet in public school after school hours on the same terms as other community groups.  CEF respects the parents' right to decide if their child should attend CEF events held on school property.  Therefore, signed parental permission is required for attendance.

The teachers and hostesses hold holiday clubs, or Party Clubs such as Birthday Parties for Jesus at Christmas season and others throughout the year.  This is also a means of reaching out to unevangelized children in the area.  In the summer, 5-Day Clubs® are led by trained college and high school students for one hour per day for five consecutive days at each location.  The fair ministry is also a big part of CEF® ministry in the summer time.  Another main ministry of CEF® is training classes to prepare children's workers in churches for a fruitful ministry with children.
